World Development

Essential questions 1. How are science and tech changing the world past, present, and future? 2. are these changes good or bad?         My thoughts about this unit so far are that technology can change the world for the better or to the worst. The reason I say that is because, yes technology can save people and help people with their homework and many other things, but did you know that technology can take away from your knowledge. Nowadays people depend on their phone or tablet to remind them of things. This takes away from your memory because your brain knows that you have your phone to do most of the things you need to do. Know people can track your phone, laptop, or tablet because people share their personal information online. Also, not many people go to places that relate to the earth and enjoy the real world. This is what makes me think that tech has a bad change to the world more than a good change

science unit

In this unit we learned about erosion and landforms and how they effect the world. We went to the lab and made two experiments. This showed us the difference between rapid water erosion and slow water erosion. We also went to wadi degla and learned about the fossils and how water used to be in the wadi, and about how their was a river there. Our essential question was, why does the earth look the way it does?       One thing I learned in this unit is that the earth can change naturally and that the earth can change because of humans, for example global warming has happened many times before naturally, but now people are causing global warming because of many objects, such as plastic, burning trash,  oil spills, factories, cows and many other things.     Another thing I learned in this unit is that water is stronger than sand and when the sand is not piled up and thick the water can jut flow past it's side. I think this is b...

vr reflection

The virtual reality was really nice because it gave me a preview of what we were going to do in the unit, and how the world changes. It also was very helpful to our experiments when we saw the water eroding. I also noticed how the world could change its form.

adventurer An adventurer is a person who takes risks exploring the earth in many different places and in many different ways. Sometimes adventurers climb mountains, go to space and take notes on the earth.                                           Miner miners are people who search for special objects in the world such as coal and other minerals.  sometimes miners cut what they find.

flood table

The water flowed down the middle really fast because of the big whole and that created a rapid.  I think the water overtook the sand and flattened it because of the speed.  The outcome I got from this was that speed can change the whole world, and that water is very powerful.

field trip

Image
the wadi field trip was a visual of what we did in the science lab. I think that water moved the rocks there. I wonder if people affected the weathering. I saw mountains that were once rivers.     Dr. Bill told us that acid rain and pollution could affect the rocks and animals.

lab report 1

My hypothesis for the experiment was that the water would erode down the middle and make a canyon but instead, the water went down the right side and made a delta. I think that was because of the weight of the sand on the right side was not as much as the weight in the middle so it was easier for the water to flow down the side and make a delta.       Some of my observations were that the water did not drop into the bucket because of curves in the box. The curves were a kind of damn that stopped the water from continuing to flow. That formed a river.

Essential Question

Why does the earth's surface look the way it does?     The earth's surface looks the way it does because of natural disasters, climate change, and global warming and many other things. The earth's look changes every season in different places because of the way that part of the earth is tilted to the sun. The earth's look also changes because of smoking, which causes 2% in Egypt of global warming (Ali's cousin). O il spills, and cow farts . Many other things such as factories, logging, and much more things affect the world's climate and look.

vocabulary for landforms

Flood- A natural disaster that has where water rises high Delta- Land in the middle of a river surrounded by sand Sediment- A nonfloating object that goes down to the end of the water erosion- The transition from being eroded by water, wind [etc.] Weathering - breaking down solids such as rocks mountains and artificial objects drainage basin- a place where rainfall is collected rapid process erosion - Not a deep area where water spreads really quickly Topsoil- the outside layer of soil

Ali the Scientist

I am a scientist and I mostly enjoy magnets and electricity because you can see how  big factors in your life work and how you can discover many new things.          I also enjoy learning new things that can help you physically and mentally. I think science should be everyones favorite subject because half of this world is not discovered yet and when you learn to discover the other half it is really fun
